Prof. Benedikt Grothe becomes new Vice President of LMU

We congratulate Prof. Grothe on his election as Vice President for Natural and Life Sciences and Deputy President of LMU.

Prof. Benedikt Grothe will be the new full-time Vice President for Natural and Life Sciences and Deputy President of LMU Munich from October 1, 2025.

Prof. Dr. Benedikt Grothe has held the Chair of Neurobiology at LMU since 2003. During this time, he initiated the Master's program in Neurosciences, founded the Munich Center for Neurosciences - Brain and Mind and the Graduate School of Systemic Neurosciences and was co-founder of the Munich Competence Center for Ethics. In addition, he headed a DFG Collaborative Research Center, is a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the Leopoldina, and chairs various national and international scientific advisory boards.

In 2010, he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon for his outstanding services to neuroscience.

The Faculty of Biology is looking forward to working with Prof. Grothe to tackle important future challenges together.
